Choosing the right upholstery for your Banquette Seating
2nd Jun 2012
The choice of upholstery you use on your banquette seating
gives you the opportunity to match colours, patterns and textures with your overall design.
Maintenance and choice of fabric are key as the most expensive fabric will not impress you customers if is stained or worn. Therefore it is sensible to use a more durable fabric on the seat and (if required for the design) the less durable fabric on the back as this takes less wear and tear.
Contract vinyls are available in an array of colours and finishes and can have a leather-like appearance. These fabrics are highly durable, spill resistant and easy to clean.
Leather will give a feeling of luxury and elegance and is both durable and easy to clean. However, banquette seating requires a large amount of fabric so using genuine leather could prove to be a costly option. Leather will also ‘puddle’ over time as a natural product this is where the leather stretches in the areas where your customers have been sitting.
It is best to avoid buttons or pleats on the seat detail as this is where crumbs tend to collect and again use these details to add interest to the back of the seat.
With the amazing variety of contract fabrics that are now available for you to select from, we would also advise that you to stay away from light coloured fabrics. Today’s dyes from denim jeans can transfer onto the upholstery and is nigh on impossible to remove. Make the right decision when you choose banquette seating
